NUU Launches Exchange Program for Japanese KOSEN Interns

To promote international academic exchange and foster a welcoming environment for international students, National United University (NUU) arranged airport pick-up services on February 26 and March 1, 2026, and held a Welcome Ceremony for Japanese KOSEN Interns on March 3. Students and faculty members from several Japanese National Institutes of Technology (KOSEN) were warmly welcomed to Taiwan, officially marking the beginning of a month-long Taiwan–Japan campus exchange program.

The visiting interns come from six Japanese National Institutes of Technology: Ube College, Kochi College, Oyama College, Oita College, Hakodate College, and Kushiro College. A total of 21 students are participating in professional internships and academic exchange activities at various departments of NUU from February 26 to March 29, 2026. Through hands-on learning and campus interaction, the program aims to strengthen both professional collaboration and cultural connections between Taiwanese and Japanese students.

To help the students arrive smoothly and adjust quickly to life in Taiwan, NUU’s International Affairs Division under the Office of Research and Development organized airport reception services. Members of the World Youth Volunteers traveled to Terminal 2 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to welcome the visiting students. The volunteers assisted with arrival procedures, luggage, transportation, and other practical matters, while also actively engaging with the students and demonstrating the warmth and hospitality of the NUU community.

The airport reception was carried out in two groups. On February 26, the first group welcomed eight students from Oyama KOSEN. On March 1, the second group welcomed students and faculty members from Ube, Oita, Hakodate, Kochi, and Kushiro KOSEN, including a delegation led by Vice President Manabu Hatamura of Ube KOSEN. Upon arrival, the visitors were transported directly to NUU and assisted with moving into the university dormitories, allowing them to begin their internship and campus life smoothly.

On the morning of March 3, NUU hosted the Welcome Ceremony for Japanese KOSEN Interns at the Bajia Campus. Japanese interns and NUU students and faculty gathered for a series of exchange activities designed to encourage interaction and mutual understanding. The event was organized by the International Affairs Division and attended by NUU President Ti-Kuang Hou, Vice President Manabu Hatamura of Ube KOSEN, and Director Ru-Mei Wen of the International Affairs Division, together with faculty members and students from both Taiwan and Japan.

During the ceremony, President Hou welcomed the Japanese students to NUU and emphasized the university’s long-standing commitment to international exchange and student internship partnerships. He expressed his hope that the program would enable students from Taiwan and Japan to learn from one another through both professional training and cultural experiences. Vice President Hatamura also expressed his appreciation for the long-term partnership between the institutions and looked forward to further strengthening future collaboration.

In addition to the exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo session, the welcome program included discussions between professors and interns, interaction with student volunteers, and a guided campus tour. These activities helped the visiting students become more familiar with NUU’s academic environment and campus culture.

National United University has maintained a strong and stable partnership with the Japanese KOSEN system for many years. Through internship programs, academic collaboration, and student exchanges, NUU continues to expand international learning opportunities for its students. The series of activities, from airport reception to the welcome ceremony, not only helped visiting students adapt smoothly to campus life but also gave NUU students valuable opportunities to participate in international hospitality, develop cross-cultural communication skills, and broaden their global perspectives.

Looking ahead, NUU will continue to deepen academic exchange and internship cooperation between Taiwan and Japan, while building a more internationally competitive, diverse, and multicultural learning environment.
